The concluding event of the Inter School Scholastic competition jointly organised by Amba, Bering-Tareythang and Taza Gram Panchayat and powered by Wandering Souls of Sikkim, a webzine and youth forum for students studying in the schools of the three GPs was held at Govt. Senior Secondary School, Mamring, East Sikkim on 20th April 2018.
The competition included Elocution, Essay Writing and Quiz Competitions.

Inter School Essay Writing Competition for the Junior Level (Classes 6- 8) on the topic “My Ambition” and Senior Level (Classes 9-10) on the topic “Organic Farming is the next big thing: How and Why?” held on 11th April 2018 saw the participation from 6 Schools across the 3 Gram Panchayat Units. Essay Papers were evaluated by Miss Karishma Sharma who is a Masters in English from Delhi University. Passangkit Lepcha of Taza Junior High School and Shital Kafley of Tareythang Secondary School secured 1st & 2nd positions respectively in the Junior Level. Dakchina Sharma of Amba Secondary School and Saroj Dahal of Tareythang Secondary School secured 1st & 2nd positions respectively in the Senior Level. The evaluated essay papers were returned back to all the participants along with the certificate of participation. Winning Essays will be published in the WSOS webzine www.wanderingsoulsofsikkim.com

Enthusiastic participants presented their elocution on the topic: “India after 70 years of Independence is a country full of opportunities and challenges: How can I contribute to a new India?” during the Inter School Elocution Competition judged by Mr. Prakash Basnet, Sr. VAA, Taza GPU & Mr. P. P. Luitel, Principal, Pushpanjali Vidhyalaya, Mamring. Susung Lepcha of Amba Secondary School & Diwash Dhakal of Mamring Sr. Sec. School secured 1st & 2nd positions respectively. Both the judges presented an overview and gave suggestions for improvement to the participants.
Inter School Quiz Competition was held in 2 rounds. From amongst the 6 teams participating in the Written Preliminary round, 4 teams were selected to battle it out on-stage. The 4 teams selected were from Bering JHS, Taza JHS, Tareythang SS & Mamring SSS. After Intense 10 rounds of quizzing conducted by WSOS In-house Quizmasters Pranay Khatiwara and Rishal Pandey Chettri, teams comprising of Shital Kafley & Bishal Kafley from Tareythang Secondary School were declared winners followed by the team from Bering Junior High School comprising of Bibek Subba & Rohan Chettri in the 2nd position.
After the conclusion of the competitions, prizes and certificates were presented to all the winners and participants. Jamuna Sharma, VAA, Bering Tareythang GP, Kabita Sharma, PDA, Amba GP, teachers from Mamring and other participating schools, Pawan Pyakurel & Satish Sharma of Wandering Souls of Sikkim, SMC members, students and others.
With an objective of “Igniting young minds of Rural Sikkim” the Inter-School Scholastic Competition is a humble attempt by Wandering Souls of Sikkim to provide a platform to perform for the students in Rural Sikkim. We believe that students studying in the schools of rural areas shouldn’t be left behind in the present era of enormous competition.
We in WSOS would like to express our gratitude towards all the three gram panchayats, participating schools, participants, judges and evaluators and all others who supported us in successfully organizing the event.
